Job Description

Position Summary:

This position is for an RF Systems Engineer in the Diversified Analog Solution (DAS) Division in Skyworks’ Ottawa design center.

The successful candidate will possess a number of critical skills, including a good understanding of RF systems and systems architecture and experience with RF test equipment. Previous RFIC design experience would also be an asset. In addition, the candidate will need excellent communication skills, as the role will involve interaction with customers.

Our Systems Engineers are responsible for driving long-term architectural roadmaps, setting system/device specifications, , validating customer requirements, and driving our customers towards our vision of the future.

Responsibilities:

As a Skyworks DAS employee working in the Systems Engineering Team, you have the chance to have a uniquely large impact on the success of the company.

The RF System Engineer position’s core focus will be to drive our understanding of emerging requirements, and to help us define our product development roadmaps. This will require a knowledge of a variety of RF standards (IEEE 802.11 and 3GPP) enabling us to formulate and specify solutions to optimize the cost/performance/size trade-off.

There is a customer facing component of the position and it also involves working closely with Sales, Marketing and Design teams.

The work will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Driving our long-term Architecture/Technology roadmap for Wi-Fi product development. Knowledge of the latest 802.11 standards (802.11be and 802.11bn) is important. Knowledge of 3GPP (5G) standards will be an asset.

  • Working with customers and other key stakeholders, incorporating their feedback. Strong communication skills will be required.

  • RF systems analysis using tools such as MATLAB, SystemVue, Genesys, and creating custom Excel spreadsheets for RF block and level analysis. The successful candidate should understand key wireless concepts and should be familiar with RF link budgets. Experience with RFIC simulation software such as ADS will be an asset.

  • Carrying out RF measurements to validate architectural concepts. Having a strong background with RF test and measurement equipment is a key requirement.

  • Carrying out a detailed investigation of adaptive digital predistortion (DPD), both in hardware and through simulation.

  • Creating detailed specifications for our Power Amplifiers, FEMs, LNAs, Filters, Switches, and communicating these specifications to key stakeholders.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

The ideal candidate will have

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Physics with an emphasis in RF/ microwave systems and digital communications

  • 5+ years of RF experience, preferably in RF systems or RFIC design

  • Experience with MATLAB

  • Working knowledge of Digital Predistortion

  • Good understanding of Radio architectures and how they impact front-end system and component requirements.

  • Systems Engineering, IEEE/3GPP/FCC/ETSI standards knowledge and familiarity with emerging features in these standards

  • RF Measurements, Power Amplifier Specifications Knowledge, Understanding of RF Systems.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, a passion to win/contribute, and the ability to work in and thrive in a team environment
