Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm rotating on call weekends

$1000 Hiring Bonus paid at 12 month mark

A Brief Overview

The Sterile Processing Tech II is responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, assembly, and sterilization or high-level disinfection of all reusable medical instrumentation for the organization and outlying clinics. The Sterile Processing Tech II is able to correctly identify, disassemble, disinfect and/or decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize items while adhering to hospital and/or departmental policies and procedures along with other regulatory agencies, (i.e., JACHO, OSHA, ANSI/AAMI, AORN). The Sterile Processing Tech II will also provide customer service to departmental and organizational customers by assisting with case cart assembly as needed, obtaining items when requested and ensuring items are available for use when needed. This position contributes to the success of the organization and the department through quality improvement initiatives.

Essential Functions

  • Cleans and decontaminate contaminated instruments using universal precautions to render items safe for handling per manufacture’s recommendations. Cleans and high-level disinfects flexible endoscopes according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and in accordance with current regulatory standards. • Maintains up to date knowledge of best practices and standards related to the reprocessing of endoscopes. Performs safe operation of departmental equipment including but not limited to: washer/disinfectors, cart washers, steam sterilizers, low temperature sterilizers, etc. Processes supplies, instruments, and equipment for sterilization to meet and maintain the OR schedule and the needs of other clinical areas. • Documents and maintains accurate records to ensure integrity and accuracy of sterilization information and equipment operation. • Verbally and physically display proficiency in sterile processing techniques, processes, and procedures. • Maintains up to date knowledge on sterile processing best practices and trends. • Uses a software-based tracking system to maintain current inventory levels and assist with daily operations. Demonstrates an understanding and ability in using the MMIS. • Utilizes the handheld terminals and/or MMIS to replenish all OR inventory locations, (Core, Anesthesia, and Procedure Room), as assigned and restocks the appropriate OR location. Prepares, maintains, and distributes scheduled and emergency surgical case carts to ensure adequate supplies for patient care and departmental needs. Provide feedback to the Senior Instrument Tech and/or Supervisor/Manager regarding issues with tracking software, tray maintenance, and other issues as they arise.

  • Regular, punctual attendance to work is an essential function of the job.

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in sterile processing Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the Exposure Control Plan

  • Thorough knowledge of the following is required: asepsis, surgical techniques, instruments, surgical equipment, patient care equipment and understand their uses.

  • Excellent customer satisfaction skills and service recovery.

  • Basic computer skills preferred.

  • Knowledge of medical terms or supplies preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician Required or

  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist Required and

  • Certified Endoscope Reprocessor Preferred or

  • CFER - Certification for Flexible-Endoscope Reprocessor Preferred and

  • CIS - Certified Instrument Specialist Preferred and

  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist Preferred

  • Must be willing to work weekends, holidays as well as night/weekend call rotation. Required and

  • Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays. Required and

  • Casual employees are required to work a minimum of 24 hours within a six-week period, starting from the date of hire Required and

  • Mandatory education will be required to be completed on a timely basis for casual staff, and in-person education must be attended as scheduled for regular staff. Required
