Oracle Sr Principal Software Developer in Olympia, Washington

About the role:

Seeking an energetic, focused development engineer to help our team design the future of data protection. Our team is responsible for development of data protection solutions, automation for cloud, on-premises, and hybrid data protection products and services. We develop and run Recovery Cloud Service (ZRCV), and Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance (ZDLRA). This role blends development with sys admin, database engineering, and cloud disciplines. You’ll be part of a team that provides the automation and data protection solutions for Databases.

As part of the broader Engineering organization, you will act as a lead for data protection and help define and create innovative features to protect our customers critical business data.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, write and deliver software to improve the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of the Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance.

  • Drive and actively participate in the resolution of complex technical issues by developing solutions to complex problems and incidents.

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers and solve complex challenges in the form of both short- and long-term solutions.

  • Create and deliver best practices recommendations, code, and collaborate on technical documents.

  • Integral in ensuring the user experience for the ZDLRA is simple, reliable, and easy to operate.

  • Participate in the design, architecture, and execution of automation for large-scale Oracle Database Backup and Recovery features

  • Participate in research and prototyping (proof of concept) different aspects of the Recovery Appliance automation.

  • Solve complex and difficult problems and build automation to prevent problem recurrence.

Requirements:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree, in Computer Science, MIS or another technical field, or equivalent work experience.

  • 5+ years of experience using or developing the Oracle Database

  • Advanced automation/development knowledge and experience that includes the ability to read and understand source code.

  • Scripting/programming skills (SQL, PL/SQL, Shell, Perl, Java, and Python).

  • Experience troubleshooting complex software and/or networking issues.

  • Very strong analytical skills to identify problems root cause.

  • Great verbal and written communication skills.

  • Working knowledge and/or experience with RMAN

  • Working knowledge and/or experience with Oracle databases including RAC, Data Guard, Oracle GI (clusterware, ASM), RMAN preferred.

  • Working knowledge and/or experience with Oracle Exadata and Oracle ZDLRA strongly preferred.

  • Proven ability to quickly learn new technical domains and then train others.

Responsibilities

As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. Define specifications for significant new projects and specify, design and develop software according to those specifications. You will perform professional software development tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.

Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 5+ years of software engineering or related experience.

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $96,800 to $251,600 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
