Overview

Verint’s Senior Database Engineer is responsible for all aspects of database design, implementation, and operation. This highly skilled, hands-on Senior Database Engineer requires extensive proficiency involved in all aspects of the development and operations of cloud-based software solutions. The Senior Database Engineer monitors, analyzes, administers, tunes and develops databases and related application components while working closely with a global team of engineers to build robust solutions. The Senior Database Engineer provides recommendations to management as to process, technologies, or other improvements intended to benefit productivity, efficiency and/or quality of the solutions and leads the implementation and operations of new solutions.

Principal Duties and Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead design, development, and operations of PostgreSQL and other databases

  • Design and develop database code for applications and ETLs

  • Ensure database security, integrity, performance, and availability through active monitoring

  • Recommend and lead changes required for system reliability and performance

  • Interface with multiple components and systems with ETLs and data transfer functions

  • Produce cost modeling of infrastructure and storage with proposals for savings

  • Communicate relevant risks and issues to team leads and management

  • Mentor and review work from more junior members of the team

  • Ensure the prioritization of scope (including defects) is understood

  • Support opportunities to address technical debt as part of a release

  • Support the design process and ensure it complies with product architecture

  • Support planning activities such as time and work estimates, dependencies, risk areas, and sequencing tasks

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or related field

  • 5 years experience in designing, monitoring, analyzing, and administrating RDBMS systems

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and parallel projects with strong organizational, time management, and project leadership skills

  • Ability to lead small teams virtually

  • Expertise in PostgreSQL database architecture

  • Expertise in implementing and maintaining highly available configurations with disaster recovery for mission critical or tier-1 applications

  • Experience with ETL and data warehouse tools like airflow, SSIS, redshift

  • Experience with database query optimization, performance troubleshooting, and capacity planning

  • Experience with version control systems e.g. GitHub

  • Ability to take ownership of assignments and drive to resolution

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment

  • Experience writing clean, readable, and maintainable code

  • Experience with automation tools and scripting for automating routine work

  • Successful completion of a background screening process including, but not limited to, employment verifications, criminal search, OFAC, SS Verification, as well as credit and drug screening, where applicable and in accordance with federal and local regulations

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with other SQL/NoSQL databases: SQL Server, MongoDB, DynamoDB, InfluxDB, Neo4

  • Experience with streaming / pipelining infrastructure like Kafka

  • Experience with containerized runtime environments: Docker, Kubernetes

  • Experience with Cloud hosting services: AWS, Azure, GCP

  • Experience working in both legacy and greenfield codebases
