Naval Air Systems Command SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT) in Okinawa Island, Japan

You will serve as a SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT) in the MRO Production Department ofFLTREADCEN EAST. THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. The National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2020 streamlines certain Department of Defense (DoD) civilian Direct Hire Authorities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly to certain DoD competitive service positions. Responsibilities You will lay out, manufacture, repair, modify, fabricate and assemble complex metal items and systems including but not limited to: aircraft engine parts, combustion chamber liners, after burners, diffusers, oil coolers, and turbine cases. You will analyze and evaluate structural damage and integrity to metal systems and items. You will fabricate, install, and repair a variety of items and systems made from a wide variety of metals including but not limited to: stainless steel, copper sheet, brass sheets, bronze, magnesium, and aluminum. You will replace sections and patch old systems. You will cut, bend, and shape metal for items that have numerous irregular angles, planes, and curves with varying pitch and circumference. You will assemble and repair items that must meet appearance and strength standards. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision, the ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks including performing extensive depot level laying out, manufacturing, repairing, modifying, fabricating, and assembling aircraft components and supporting aircraft equipment.
