Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Transportation Technician in Oil City, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 4652108 THE POSITION: The Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Technician to become part of our team. In this entry-level position, you will perform essential technical tasks associated with construction inspections. Your contributions will be vital in making sure that all construction activities adhere to the established codes, plans, standards, and specifications. DESCRIPTION OF WORK: In this role, you will perform inspection services to verify adherence to contract specifications, prioritizing cost efficiency while upholding quality standards. You will evaluate completed work unit documentation and materials to ensure they conform to Department policies. Additionally, you will support the management of the District's field construction project records and documentation, contributing to initiatives such as the PennDOT Project Collaboration Center, Electronic Construction Management System, Labor Compliance, and EEO. Your responsibilities will include inspecting various phases of highway construction, assessing grades, elevations, and the layout of roadways and simple structures. You will review work zone traffic control signs and devices to ensure compliance with the Work Zone Traffic Control Plan and relevant guidelines. Furthermore, you will perform necessary calculations to confirm material consistency, create sketches, document field plan modifications, and maintain comprehensive inspection, progress, and quality control reports. You will also closely oversee construction and material testing to ensure they meet contract specifications.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, vendor controlled schedule
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Oil City.
  • This position will cover projects in Warren, Forest, Venango, Mercer, Crawford, and Erie County.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
  • One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
