Weber State University Botany Research Assistant in OGDEN, Utah

Dr. Bridget Hilbig is hiring a research assistant to help with research that examines . The research opportunity is available for up to 80 hours during Summer 2021. The successful candidate will assist Dr. Hilbig on a collaboration with atmospheric scientists with the National Park Service. The project will examine how mycorrhizal fungi respond to forest fires in areas above and below the critical load of Nitrogen for mycorrhizas. This has implications for plant gorwth and succession and overall soil carbon. This research requires physically demanding field work and analytical and molecular lab work. Research duties include traveling to Yosemite National Park,Sequoia National Park,Rocky Mountain National Park and/or the Uintas National Forest for field work. Field work includes plant diversity measurements and soil core collections. Lab work will include preparing soils for total C and total N,and extracting and amplifying fungal DNA from soil cores.
