Description

A leading Oakland, California law firm is seeking an experienced Employment Litigation Attorney to join its dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in employment law and significant experience supporting employment-related disputes, including wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, wage and hour claims, and retaliation cases. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex and high-profile employment litigation matters, providing strategic legal support and counsel to a diverse client base.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing all aspects of employment litigation cases, including case evaluation, legal research, discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation.

  • Draft, review, and assist in filing legal documents related to employment disputes, including complaints, motions, oppositions, settlement agreements, and discovery responses.

  • Support the discovery process, including depositions, interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission.

  • Provide support in mediation, arbitration, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR).

  • Develop and assist in implementing litigation strategies tailored to the specific needs of each case.

  • Advise clients on employment law compliance, risk management, and litigation avoidance strategies, including conducting internal investigations and providing training on employment best practices.

  • Support attorneys in administrative hearings and interactions with regulatory agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH).

  • Assist in negotiating and drafting settlement agreements, working to resolve disputes efficiently and favorably for clients.

  • Provide clear and concise updates and strategic advice to clients on case developments.

    Requirements

Key Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

  • Active California State Bar membership in good standing.

  • 3+ years of experience in employment litigation, with a proven track record in supporting complex employment law cases.

  • Extensive knowledge of California employment laws, including the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), California Labor Code, and federal employment statutes such as Title VII, FLSA, ADA, and FMLA.

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills with the ability to craft compelling legal arguments.

  • Experience supporting depositions, mediations, and arbitrations.

  • Proficiency in legal research tools such as Westlaw and LexisNexis, and familiarity with case management software.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with clients and other legal professionals.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.

  • Experience in wage and hour class actions and PAGA (Private Attorneys General Act) claims is highly desirable.
