Carleton College Associate Chaplain for Jewish and Interfaith Life in Northfield, Minnesota

Position Overview: The Associate Chaplain for Jewish and Interfaith Life provides religious, programmatic, counseling, and educational support for members of the Jewish community at Carleton College. Carleton is seeking an ordained rabbi, cantor, or experienced educator who will promote interfaith life for all on campus, contributing to its on-going strength and development by serving as: a religious leader, community builder, educator, supervisor, and program coordinator for religion and spirituality. Chaplains work collaboratively, with students, faculty, staff, and members of the wider community. This part time position (.46 FTE) works 20 hours per week over 11 months, August through June. Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities: Plan and help lead Jewish holidays and services, religious and cultural events, while working closely with the other chaplaincy staff, Jewish groups on campus, and individual Carleton faculty, staff, and students. Advise Jewish student religious groups, helping them plan for events, programs, or worship. Initiate programs and events for the nurture and education of the Jewish community and the campus at large. Work collaboratively with campus constituencies in advocating for the needs of students who identify as religious and help to implement appropriate supports including coordination with dining services, residence life, and other departments and individuals. Supervise the Jewish Interest House and the House Manager, helping to coordinate applications and programming. Participate in the Council for Religious Understanding (CRU), a biweekly interfaith dialogue student group. Enhance relationships between the College and the local Jewish communities. Counsel and support Jewish students, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni. Respond to emergencies as needed, including hospital visits. Supervision Received and Exercised: Meet regularly with the College Chaplain to assess and plan. Meet regularly with the Jewish Chaplain's Associates (student peer leaders) and/or the Jewish student leadership to assess and plan.
