Robotic Storage Technologies (RST) is transforming Amazon warehousing through automated storage and retrieval solutions powered by thousands of mobile drive units. We combine robotics and AI-driven planning & allocation to process Amazon.com orders faster and at lower cost. Our ergonomic station design and intuitive user workflows enhance warehouse associate safety. Each new generation of our solutions delivers increased simplicity to our customers in Amazon Operations.
RST is seeking a Software Development Manager (SDM) to guide and mentor a team of 8-12 engineers in aiding critical production services across more than 150 global fulfillment centers. You will be own guiding your team in development of best-in-class Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) capabilities, enabling RST services to make optimal planning and allocation choice selections in dynamic production environments. Your team will also develop simulation tools to test new algorithms and features before deployment.
The ideal candidate possesses excellent people and project management skills, leads with empathy, and promotes diversity and inclusion. They are passionate about Operational Excellence and driving Continuous Improvements. They have experience delivering highly scalable cloud-based solutions, and they bring to the team background in one of: ML, Simulation, or Big Data. Key job responsibilities
Specific areas of focus include (but are not limited too):
Guide and Mentor a Talented Diverse Team: You will manage and mentor a diverse team of software engineers, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive environment. Your stewardship skills will be pivotal in guiding the team through complex challenges and ensuring their professional growth.
Drive Technical Vision and Strategy: As the SDM, you will play a crucial role in shaping the technical vision and strategy for the team. You will work closely with stakeholders, product managers, peer SDMs and Senior engineers to align your roadmap with business objectives.
Agile Methodologies and DevOps Practices: You will spearhead agile methodologies and DevOps practices within the team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, automated testing, operational excellence and efficient software delivery and release.
Collaboration and Communication: You will communicate with users, other technical teams, and senior stewardship to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.

Basic Qualifications
3+ years of engineering team management experience
7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
