Stark State College Physics/Astronomy Tutor in North Canton, Ohio

Our Physics/Astronomy Tutors (Science Learning Center) will provide assistance to students by helping with lecture or lab material in physics or astronomy courses, as well as help with study methods, or technology needed to complete course related material. Tutors may also assist with answering general questions about the college, providing assistance and guidance to college services. Location of Work: Tutoring will take place primarily in person at either the main campus (North Canton), there is a potential of working in Akron, as needed (substitute tutoring). Hours of Work: Flexible during outlined times for the Science Learning Center (SLC). SLC is open Monday through Thursday 10am to 7pm. Typical duties include: Conduct one-on-one and group tutoring sessions for physics and/or astronomy lecture and lab courses, both in person and/or online. Foster a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere conducive to academic success for all students. Assist students in understanding complex concepts through engaging and interactive methods. Collaborate with faculty and fellow Learning Coaches to enhance the learning experience. Provide support and accommodations for students with diverse cognitive processes and capabilities to ensure academic success. Develop short workshops on challenging physics or astronomy topics or study skills to support student success. To be considered you'll need: A bachelor's degree in physics or closely related field is required with course work in calculus based physics or astronomy preferred. Preferred Qualifications Previous tutoring experience is desired but not required.Comfortable with both in-person and online instruction platforms.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
