MT. BAKER-SNOQUALMIE NATIONAL FOREST GS-0462-7/8 Supervisory Forestry Technician-SFEO Permanent Full Time North Bend, Washington in North Bend, Washington

About the Position:

 

This position is established on a Forest Service unit to serve as a first line supervisor on a High Complexity Fire Engine Module. The primary purpose of this position is to perform wildland firefighting work and to supervise crews performing such work. These crews perform work directly related to wildland fire suppression and control activities including suppression, preparedness, prevention, monitoring, and hazardous fuels reduction. May also perform duties in other fuels related or ecosystem restoration projects. The position is located in areas with the added complexities of wildland-urban interface, including proximity of high-value improvements, and regular and recurring all-hazard incidents and frequent interagency jurisdictional issues and coordination requirements. The incumbent is responsible for providing leadership of the module crew, both during fire suppression and on prescribed burns or other fuels related or ecosystem restoration projects.

 

The position meets the definition of an Interagency Fire Management Program (IFPM) position, as designated by WO Fire Management. The incumbent must meet the qualifications specified in the Qualifications Standards and Guide prior to October 1, 2009.

 

FIREFIGHTER RETIREMENT COVERAGE: This is a primary/rigorous firefighter position under the provisions of 5 USC 8336(c) (CSRS) and 8412(d) (FERS).  This position was approved for primary/rigorous firefighter retirement coverage by USDA under FERS and CSRS on 03/29/2009, C4.

Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. If applicable, the incumbent will be required to possess and maintain a valid commercial driver's license (CDL). If a CDL is required, the position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Department of Transportation (DOT)/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program. The Incumbent will be required to submit a urinalysis specimen at a designated medical facility, to screen for illegal drug use. These screenings are required prior to appointment and on a random basis post appointment.

 

In accordance with USDA Department Regulation 4430-792-2, this position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the USDA Drug Free Workplace Program and subject to pre-employment drug testing.  All applicants selected for this position will be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.  Incumbents of this position will be required to submit to a urinalysis on an ongoing random basis, after appointment as directed.

Incumbent is subject to medical screening and must meet the Federal Wildland Firefighter Medical Qualification Standards for arduous duty wildland firefighting.
