Job Description
The chief objective of a Benefits Coordinator is to effectively administer employee benefits and leave programs to ensure compliance, efficiency, and employee satisfaction. To serve as a liaison between employees, benefits providers, and the university, ensuring that benefits are communicated clearly and utilized effectively. The Benefits Coordinator’s goal is to enhance employee well-being while optimizing costs and maintaining compliance with legal and company policies.

Knowledge, skills and abilities
Working knowledge of employer benefits and leave programs to include health insurance, retirement, disability and various leave benefits. Working knowledge of regulatory requirements such as ACA , ERISA , COBRA , HIPAA , FMLA , and IRS regulations for supplemental retirement, and defined contribution plans. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient with computer software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel,
PowerPoint) and other presentation design software (i.e. Canva). Working knowledge of client server systems (e.g. Banner, PeopleSoft or a similar program). Excellent customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and to work independently.Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to record, organize and analyze data. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a timely manner, while producing quality work.

Level and type of experience
Considerable experience in customer service and office administration. Prior working experience drafting, preparing, and editing all manner of related correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, presentations, memos, and other documents. Prior working experience in benefits and leave administration in an organization offering a comprehensive benefit package.
Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification)
Working knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia policies and procedures relating to benefits programs; basic knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia Workers’ Compensation rules and regulations. Prior working benefits experience in a higher education institution. Education equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in relevant area of study such as human resources, business administration, psychology or public administration.
