Primary Goal IT Technician Apprenticeship in Newcastle under Lyme, United Kingdom

  • CompTIA A + (Exam 1 and 2)

  • CompTIA Cloud Essentials

    Excellent opportunity to work for  A multi-academy trust consisting of three secondary academies; students aged 11 – 16 years. Currently have 250 employees and 2000 students.  We are looking for an apprentice to support the rollout of iPads to students. The role will advance the use of mobile learning technologies in the academy.  You will assist with the care infrastructure maintenance, e.g. Windows server, mobile device management, Wi-Fi structure

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Working in technical support is a varied role. A person in this role would be expected:

  • To help lead a successful rollout of iPads, developing and documenting a suitable framework for use across the MAT

  • Promote innovative uses of iPads in a teaching and learning environment

  • To support all staff and students in the use of ICT

  • To assist the Senior ICT technician

  • To help maintain ICT equipment

  • To respond to ‘call outs’ from staff

  • To carry out routine maintenance and repair of ICT equipment including replacement of consumables and cleaning

  • To assist with the training of staff and students in the use of iOS, selected apps and any other associated ICT

  • To help maintain internet facilities and other learning technology for curriculum use

  • To produce and present support materials for staff and students

  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons you are responsible for or come into contact with

  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person

  • Be aware of, support and ensure equal opportunities for all

  • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school

  • Appreciate and support the role of other professionals

  • Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required

  • Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required

    The training you'll be provided with:

  • Comprehensive introductory modules to technical concepts

  • Level 3 Information Communications Technician apprenticeship standard

  • Training for all pathways of your IT career (support technician, network technician, digital communications technician)

  • Specialising in a portfolio of evidence for the Support Technician pathway

  • e-learning training materials

  • Bi-weekly virtual classroom training on all options of the apprenticeships;

  • Access to virtual labs to develop technical competency

  • Monthly work-based coaches visits and competency checks

  • 9 am – 5 pm Support desk for technical support

  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills and Key Skills development

  • Option for vendor and technical certificates- e.g. CompTIA

    You will also have the opportunity to network with a range of other apprentices on our programme who can share ideas, offer suggestions and support. Our apprentices love being able to help each other!

    As one of our apprentices, you will also have access to our online portal that will provide you with information and technical guidance, as well as links to the helpdesk to speak to technicians who can give real-time advice and support.

    Working Week:

    37 hours per week – Monday to Friday.

    Typical working pattern: 8.00 am – 4.00 pm (Mon – Thurs), 8.00 am – 3.30 pm (Fri) taking a lunch break of 30 minutes.

    Salary:

    National Minimum wage for your age – Under 18 £5.28 / 18-20 £7.49 / 21-22 £10.18 / 23 and over £10.42

    Desired Qualifications:

    We require someone who is educated to GCSE standard English and Maths grade 4 (or above), or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths.

    Expected Duration:

    15 months and 4 Months End Point Assessment

    Other Important Information: Successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check (previously known as CRB). Evidence of previous qualifications is required, evidence of right to work in the UK and two references.
