Position Summary

The Technician A position in a research Lab in the Division of Surgical Science will focus on vascular anomalies, including hemangiomas and vascular malformations, in human disorders and diseases. The position will assist the lab in isolating cells from resected specimens, evaluating cellular behavior in vitro (cell culture), as well as in an animal model (ex vivo).

Responsibilities

Under supervision and training, with graduating independence to develop the ability to work in:

  • Mouse handling and husbandry and genotyping.
  • Tissue isolation/processing, immunohistochemistry and tissue culture.
  • Perform molecular biology techniques: RNA/DNA/PCR, quantitative PCR, western blotting flow cytometry, ELISA.
  • Microscopy: immunohistochemistry (colorimetric, immunofluorescent staining, microscope documentation).
  • Sectioning using both microtome and cryostat.
  • Preparing lab solutions.
  • Administrative (order supplies, keep database of inventory).
  • Support other functions as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of college or a completed A.A. program with an emphasis in chemistry, biology or physics or a completed animal husbandry program.
  • One year of related experience, or equivalent in education, training and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with chemistry, biology or physics terminology and techniques.

  • Laboratory experience in molecular biology/biochemistry.
