Amazon Software Development Manager, Purchase Order Forecasting in New York, New York

Description

Purchase Order Forecasting at Amazon is seeking a passionate, experienced Software Development Manager to lead a newly-formed team developing state-of-the-art forecasting models that provide vendors with advanced visibility of Amazon's orders. These forecasts enable effective collaboration with vendors to reduce overall supply chain costs and acquire the right items at the right time and the right price to delight our customers. In this role, you will partner closely with research scientists, product managers, other engineering teams, and business stakeholders to experiment with novel ways of predicting Amazon's upcoming orders, and scale these solutions to cover the millions of items sold by Amazon. Our team is part of the Supply Chain Optimization Technologies (SCOT) organization. SCOT owns Amazon's global inventory sourcing & planning systems. We decide what, when, where, how much and from whom we should buy to meet the diverse needs of our global customer base. We do this for millions of items, for hundreds of product lines worth billions of dollars of inventory world-wide. Our systems are built entirely in-house and feature the latest innovations in automated large scale supply chain sourcing, planning, and optimization systems.

Key job responsibilities

As a Software Development Manager in the Purchase Order forecasting team, you will be responsible for leading and mentoring a team of software engineers focused on building the next generation of order forecasting solutions. You will work closely with research scientists and product teams to develop innovative prediction models, while driving the technical strategy and roadmap for purchase order forecasting systems. An important aspect of your role will be ensuring operational excellence and reliability of mission-critical forecasting infrastructure. You will partner with business stakeholders and senior leaders to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions, while fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and technical excellence within your team.

A day in the life

Here's what you could be doing on a daily basis:

  • Thinking big and working with leadership, cross teams and business stakeholders to define strategy and roadmap.

  • Facilitating the design and architecture of the distributed and highly scalable services needed to solve supply chain problems in this space

  • Delivering on the product roadmap while managing the full software development lifecycle of the services.

  • Coaching, mentoring and developing some of the smartest engineers in the world.

  • Owning the inputs and the business outcome through cultivating a culture of relentless auditing and metric monitoring, automatically where possible.

About the team

This position is in Amazon's Purchase Order (PO) Forecasting team, where we're revolutionizing supply chain management by building sophisticated systems that bridge the gap between Amazon's procurement needs and our vendors' supply capabilities. Our team develops intelligent forecasting solutions that provide vendors with insights into Amazon's future purchasing patterns across national and global scales. In this team, you will work on innovative predictive models and state-of-the-art systems that ingest and process vast amounts of data to generate accurate purchase order forecasts, build flexible platforms for customized vendor and retail user experiences, and help shape the future of collaborative planning with vendors through two-way communication tools.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience delivering products against plan in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, distributed-responsibility and often ambiguous environment

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
