Job Title: Social Work Supervisor - Inpatient Med Surg

The Mount Sinai Hospital is a 1,134-bed facility with an extensive outpatient and specialty care network and is the largest hospital in the Mount Sinai Health Care System. It offers comprehensive social work services and programming to meet the myriad needs of the diverse populations we serve. Social Workers collaborate within interprofessional teams to serve patients and the larger community from both a micro and macro level including both direct care and prevention. Founded in 1907, the Department of Social Work Services at the Mount Sinai Hospital is one of the oldest hospital social work departments in the nation with over 450 licensed social workers employed across more than 65 different program/service areas. Employment in our department provides a pathway to LCSW licensure as well as access to a broad range of continuing education, professional development and extra-curricular opportunities.
The Social Work Supervisor is responsible for oversight of the Social Work component of inpatient Med/Surg.
The Social Work Supervisor will provide direct clinical supervision, as well as programmatic and administrative support to social work staff working within Med/Surg.
This position will also include the monitoring of program/service delivery, development, evaluation, and regulatory compliance.
Each Social Work Supervisor will report to an Associate Director of Social Work and will also work with service line leadership on policy/programming/CMS/QA related issues in Med/Surg.
Qualifications
NYS LCSW.
Hospital social work experience required.
Five years of post-MSW work experience required, with a minimum of three years in Adult Med/Surg strongly preferred .
Supervisory experience with social workers or social work interns (inpatient) strongly preferred.
Exceptional ability to identify and analyze problems, to weigh the relevance and accuracy of information, to generate and evaluate alternative solutions and to make recommendations for enhancement of programs.
Exceptional ability to formulate objectives and priorities, and to implement plans consistent with organizational goals.
Demonstrated initiative in social work program development, management, and administration, including crisis intervention.
Demonstrated ability to be flexible and to set a highly positive tone for change.
Exceptional leadership abilities.
Exceptional skills in engaging and assessing patients and families and in coordinating resources within family, hospital, and community networks for effective management of patient care.
Excellent clinical, collaborative, organizational, communication and presentation skills.
Strong computer literacy including the ability to analyze program data.

Responsibilities
Provide clinical and administrative supervision and leadership of social workers in outcome driven initiatives.
Provide professional and administrative leadership for social workers responsible for providing discharge planning and transitions of care services to patients and families.
Participate in program and policy development and monitoring and continuous quality improvement in assigned areas.
Participate in the development and implementation of ongoing staff trainings and educational programs.
Provide clinical guidance and collaborate with Social Work Management and physician/nursing leadership as escalations arise (as needed).
Represent Social Work at multiple meetings and develop and maintain effective working relationships with a range of physician, nursing, and case management administrative leaders.
Oversee the professional development and orientation of assigned Social Workers and/or Care Coordinators through individual and group teaching/supervision, case discussions, and by sharing professional knowledge and/or experience relevant to a particular patient or professional situation.
Autonomously and consistently integrate practice and program development in the management of their program areas and/or the supervision of other staff.
Monitor the performance of any staff they supervise, which includes completion of performance appraisals and the management of any performance concerns or issues (which may include progressive discipline).
Identify gaps in service or program delivery and develop strategies and plans to remedy these deficits.
Intervene in unresolved service-related situations and assist frontline staff with resolving issues with patients/families, as needed.

Compensation Statement
Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $78649 - $127458 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
