Amazon Senior Supply Chain Manager, North America Sort Center Engineering in New York, New York

Description

As a Supply Chain Manager within the Amazon Sortation Center (SC) network, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our 120 buildings meet the complex demands of Amazon’s next-day and two-day delivery promises. Our Sortation Centers (SCs) process packages from fulfillment centers and sort them by delivery zip code for last-mile delivery to our customers. The primary goal of this role is to maximize the utilization of our SCs to reduce cost to serve, while ensuring customer needs for on-time and accurate delivery are met. This requires matching diverse package types and volumes to the optimal SCs based on each facility’s layout, material handling equipment, and operational capacity.

Key responsibilities include monitoring and optimizing SC throughput across various building configurations, each with unique attributes such as equipment, yard size, dock door availability, and staging capacity. You will focus on calculating capacity based on volume demand and engineering/operational constraints, optimizing throughput-per-hour, and contributing to strategic initiatives to improve network resilience and flexibility. You will work closely with Planning, Engineering, Operations, and other cross-functional teams.

Key job responsibilities

  • Capacity Planning and Optimization: Develop and implement solutions to optimize SC throughput, balancing yard and dock constraints, sorter capacity, and staging needs to meet same-day and two-day delivery objectives.

  • Data-Driven Problem Solving: Use data to identify bottlenecks and potential efficiency gains within SC operations, enhancing processing speeds and accuracy while adapting to network-level changes in demand and flow patterns.

  • Network Standardization Initiatives: Contribute to and lead projects focused on standardizing processes across SCs, focusing on material handling equipment, dock staging, and yard throughput to improve overall capacity and operational consistency.

  • Automation Initiatives: Contribute to and lead projects focused on automating process paths in SCs such as unloading, loading, container building, and container movement in collaboration with Design Engineering.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with teams in Planning, Sales, Operations, and other stakeholders to assess the impact of network changes on individual SCs and ensure seamless adjustments across the network.

  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Document insights, decisions, and lessons learned, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaborative problem-solving across the network.

  • Customer-Centric Approach: Champion customer needs by working to enhance the SC network’s ability to deliver on Amazon’s promises of rapid and reliable delivery.
