New York University Postdoctoral Associate (Oettingen Lab) in New York, New York

The Motivation Lab at New York University (Prof. Gabriele Oettingen) is looking for a Postdoctoral Associate. The position involves working on a number of different projects related to motivation including the anti-social outcomes of having one's knowledge conflicted by counter-evidence or skeptics (see A. Gollwitzer & Oettingen, 2019, A. Gollwitzer et al., 2022), examining the use of individualized interventions to heighten intellectual humility (recognizing that one's beliefs may be wrong), and applying machine learning techniques and decision trees to identify how individuals can autonomously heighten their intellectual humility (with the goal of reducing polarization and mental rigidity in society).

This position will be for at least 1 year with possible extension starting September 2023. Salary is competitive and based on the NIH salary scale.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $58,500 - $90,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Optimal qualifications for the planned projects include experience with experimental and/or correlational research methods. Experience in cognitive, social psychological, or motivational research is optimal but not required. A background in machine learning and experience in related research areas are not required but encouraged. The position is accompanied by research funds to conduct numerous large sample studies.

Please submit a cover letter and a CV. We will reach out for letters of recommendation if applicable. We look forward to your application!
