FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Hunter College, City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for the position of Doctoral Lecturer, Public Policy and Director of the Academic Public Policy Program. Those candidates with an exceptional record of scholarship could be considered for a tenure track position. We seek a public policy expert, preferably with experience working in a college environment, to lead the program in Public Policy, situated at Hunter College's Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute.

Hunter College is the largest college of the City University of New York. It is comprised of five schools: Arts and Sciences, Education, Nursing, Health Professions, and Social Work, and has nearly 600 full-time faculty members. Hunter enrolls over 23,000 students, and has one of the most diverse student bodies in the United States. Located near the main campus of Hunter College, the Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute is based in the former home of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt and is dedicated to fostering academic and public engagement in a wide range of domestic policy issues and international human rights. The Institute opened in 2010. Roosevelt House administers two interdisciplinary programs for undergraduates in public policy and human rights. The Public Policy Program offers students the opportunity of fulfilling the requirements for either a minor or a more advanced certificate in Public Policy. Nearly 100 students are currently enrolled in the Public Policy Program (PPP).

The successful candidate will perform teaching duties and will be the Director of the Academic Public Policy Program. This is a one-year term appointment with the possibility of annual renewals based on satisfactory performance. Reappointment to a sixth year comes with a Certificate of Continuous Employment, the equivalent of tenure (CCE). She/he/they works closely with the policy and curriculum faculty committee and its chair in the planning and development of new courses. The PPP Director reports to the Director of Roosevelt House on administrative issues and to the Provost on academic issues. Included among the courses she/he/they will teach is the Public Policy Capstone course. She/he/they also serves as the adviser for Public Policy students, guiding them through the program and developing exciting extra-curricular activities for them outside the classroom (e.g., trips to Washington, D.C., meetings with leading policy makers and experts in New York) and facilitating internship opportunities. The Doctoral Lecturer is responsible for running existing internship and civic engagement programs and developing new ones. Finally, the Doctoral Lecturer works closely with other leadership at Roosevelt House in developing academic conferences and public programs and in publicizing them. The Doctoral Lecturer will convene subject matter experts to discuss and consider important public policy initiatives via academic and public program activities. The Doctoral Lecturer will also take the lead in working with faculty associates, offering support for research initiatives and centers based at Roosevelt House. Hunter College has both a teaching and a research mission. Responsibilities associated with this position fall within the purview of its teaching mission, although research experience is highly valued.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. or equivalent, and a record of achievement in a profession or field of expertise related to teaching assignments. Also required is the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. A strong record of, and interest in community, government and civic engagement, along withpublic policy practitioners and officials are a plus for job candidates. Demonstrated leadership, teaching, and practical experience in public policy preferred. A record of academic publications and public scholarship desired.

Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience within the range for this title (currently$72,922-$98,309).
