Graham Windham’s Family Support and Empowerment/Preventive programs support more than 700 families care safely for their children, while addressing underlying conditions that can lead to child abuse or neglect, such as parental depression, family stress, substance use or domestic violence. TheSchool Based Early Support Programis a new family support model that focuses on providing support to families whose children are served within the Manhattan community school districts 4 & 5 (central & east Harlem). The program enhances partnerships between schools and community providers, offers preventive services, case management, facilitates parent-support and education groups, and helps families with their basic needs.

Position Overview :

The SBES Director in partnership with the Associate Vice-President of Social Services will serve as strong ally in co-creating offerings to support families and children in all 3 partner schools. Using a strengths-based Appreciative Inquiry lens, and grounded in the motivational interviewing and solution-based casework models, the SBES Director builds strong and productive connections with school personnel, community partners, and families; and promote the safety and wellbeing of children. CoordinateTriple P Positive Parenting Groups in schools using the evidence-based Triple P Model that empowers parents by teaching effective techniques to manage challenging behaviors and build strong relationships with their children. The Director will manage the day to day function of the SBES Program in 3 partner schools according to Graham and New York City Administration of Children casework practice standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate a collaborative co-designed process with each partner school to build a menu of offering that support children and families’ safety and wellbeing.

  • Create a seamless referral pathway process and manage referrals and the intake process to ensure full utilization of the program.

  • Plan, implement and monitor the delivery of the Triple P Parenting Groups to ensure robust participation and program fidelity to the model.

  • Work with the Triple P model staff to implement trainings to build parents’/caregivers' knowledge of child development, offer positive parenting frameworks and tools, improve parent-child and intra-family dynamics, promote children’s social emotional development, foster supportive connections between parents/caregivers and schools, and strengthen parental self-efficacy.

  • Responsible for the daily program operation and activities in 3 partner schools and oversee the borough based SBES teams.

  • Ensure that supportive and rehabilitative services are provided to children and families with urgency to avert disruption of families.

  • Drive the implementation of practices, policies and procedures consistent with Graham Windham’s Prevention Program Plan for Performance Excellence.

  • Maintain a consistent urgent focus on safety and risk.

  • Ensure that all staff have the opportunity for continuous learning and skills enhancement by full participation in all required training offered by Graham, ACS and NYC School Public Systems.

  • Monitor all case planning components by tracking the SBES quality assurance deliverables including ACS evaluation items.

  • Hire and train appropriate staff to ensure an unbroken continuum of services to clients.

  • Provide ongoing management direction and support to staff to ensure correct implementation of agency policies and procedures.

  • Maintain and apply a current knowledge of Preventive Service regulations.

  • Manage facility related issues to build a positive culture and staff morale.

  • Respond to agency/ client emergencies within or outside office hours.

  • Ensure timely documentation of all case activities.

  • Co-create strategies to support staff and maintain high quality service delivery

  • Interface with all stakeholders utilizing the Graham’s PILLARS: Respect, Lead, Grow, & Thrive.

  • Ensure quality supervision of all SBES staff using Graham’s supervision Model.

  • Engage with families using Appreciative Inquiry lens, MI and SBC to forge respectful partnership and buy into to SBES support and offerings.

  • Conduct collaborative assessments with families (informed by feedback from referral sources) to assess presenting risk factors, identify priority service needs, and determine the appropriateness of the program.

  • Assume additional assigned responsibilities as dictated by Agency/ Program need.

    Staff Leadership and Development:

  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes staff retention and high morale.

  • Promote professional development opportunities for staff to enhance their skills and knowledge, fostering career growth.

  • Establish clear roles and responsibilities for each staff level, fostering ownership and accountability.

  • Facilitate regular team meetings to discuss program progress, challenges, and opportunities. Encourage information sharing and collaboration.

    Program Management and Quality Improvement:

  • Collaborate with and represent SBES program at meetings with NYC School Public System, OCFS, ACS, and Community based providers, and other governmental key stakeholders.

  • Track program participation, outcomes, and data in agency database to maintain accurate records and generate reports.

  • Continuously evaluate program effectiveness using data to identify areas for improvement.

  • Implement data-driven improvements and stay up-to-date on best practices in family support and child development.

  • Stay Current on Family Support Best Practices: Attend relevant trainings and workshops to continuously improve program effectiveness.

  • Attend relevant trainings and workshops to continuously improve program effectiveness, Including but not limited to Motivational Interviewing, Appreciative Inquiry, Trauma informed care, cultural competency and other workforce development trainings.

    Build a strong and supportive school community:

    • Serve as Program Liaison with OCFS, ACS, and Triple P Model Developers as needed.
  • Proactively build trust and rapport with families from diverse backgrounds, promoting inclusivity and accessibility.

  • Meet with school teams weekly to identify students that can benefit from supports offered by SBES team.

  • Create and implement strategies to educate school staff about the program and its target population.

  • Assist with school program events and initiatives focused on supporting families within the school community.

  • Develop and Maintain Communication Channels: Keep all stakeholders informed through regular communication, including newsletters, social media, and meetings.

  • Work collaboratively with SBES team, school personnel, parents identify targeted services for families.

  • Attend weekly partner school based meetings and share offerings.

  • Attend weekly program staff meetings, supervision, and trainings.

  • Build relationships with community-based service providers and other key community stakeholders.

  • Join forces with all Graham programs to ensure an integrated approach to serving families.

    Full-time position; Full-time position; $90,000 – $93,000 annually + Merit + Benefits/Pension + Paid Time Off + Staff Development.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements :

  • Master's Degree in Social Work or in a related Human Services' field required

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in a Child Welfare programs, Human Services, Education and Early Childhood setting .

  • Experience implementing successful school partnership preferred.

  • Knowledge and experience with group work preferred.

  • Direct experience working with families, children and in school setting.

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and problem solving abilities.

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills

  • Working knowledge of ACS Prevention Standards and Policies, as well as CONNECTIONS and PROMIS data systems .

  • Ability to work evening and weekend to attend community events.

  • Weekly travel among all 3 partner schools.
