City of New York Cyber Security Engineer in New York, New York

Job Description

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the largest public housing authority in North America. NYCHA is looking for a dynamic and innovative Cyber Security Engineer to join our team. The Cyber Security Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and operating effective security measures to safeguard NYCHA’s information technology resources, enhancing the overall security posture at NYCHA. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in Microsoft products demonstrating strong proficiency and extensive hands-on experience. Expertise in desktop and server environments, Active Directory, Entra ID, InTune, Defender, and Purview is desired. Networking experience is a plus.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Design and implement security controls with a special emphasis on the Windows systems, including access controls and encryption for both on-premises and Cloud environments.

  • Develop and enforce security policies and procedures that pertain to the secure operation of Windows systems within the organization.

  • Work closely with other IT team members to ensure that security measures align with the overall IT strategy and to implement security best practices across all technology platforms, with a particular focus on Windows systems.

  • Configure and manage security tools, ensuring they are up to date and operating effectively.

  • Regularly conduct security audits to uncover vulnerabilities and recommend corrective actions; work collaboratively with various teams to offer guidance and expertise on the implementation of security solutions.

  • Assist the Security Operations Center (SOC) with investigating security alerts and events, ensure security controls are continuously enhanced to optimize the incident response process.

  • Stay informed about the latest security threats, vulnerabilities, and industry trends to help proactively identify potential risks and recommend appropriate preventive measures.

Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to projects and policies required by the particular position; or,

Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
