Job Description

If you are hired provisionally in this title, you must take and pass the Civil Service Exam, when it becomes available, to be eligible for continued employment.

The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self- sufficiency as quickly as possible. The Special Processing Unit within the Finance Office /Division of Accounts Receivable & Billing (DARB), along with the Central Processing Unit, processes over 4,000 payments per month resulting in $107 million in collections annually.

The Cashier reports directly to the Assistant Supervisor of the Special Processing Unit and is responsible for the processing of checks returned by landlords, the NYCHA and payments from Con Edison.

DARB/ Special Processing Unit is recruiting one (1) Clerical Associate IV to function as a Cashier who will:

Assist with the Cashier’s window where payments are received from various program areas such as IREA Claims and Collections, Bureau of Fraud Investigation and the Office of Liens and Trusts.

Deposit checks and money orders to the bank through remote deposit.

Respond to telephone calls from customers who wish to make a payment by credit card for the Medicaid Pay-in program and processes credit card transactions using a POS terminal.

Oversee and performs scanning, indexing and quality assurance of documents to the HRA One Viewer.

Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Hours/Schedule: 9 AM – 5 PM

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements

A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.

Skills Requirement

Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.

Salary Min: $ 45,040.00

Salary Max: $ 51,796.00
