The Regional Transit Authority gets people moving around New Orleans. Our transit services bring hard-working commuters to their jobs, students to their schools, and fun-seekers to entertainment, shopping areas, and restaurants. We provide mobility to residents of the city as well as tourists, taking them to and from their hotels to historical neighborhoods and countless attractions. RTAs system includes 5 streetcar lines, 30 bus routes, 2 ferry routes, and paratransit services. Our passengers take more than 19 million rides every year.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises and manages a team and/or management processes including the full range of management duties
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and appraises employees (performance evaluations) on their productivity
  • Delegates and oversees the daily workflow of the department
  • Motivates, guides, and mentors employees in their development
  • Recommends to senior management internal promotions and changes including discipline and terminations of employees by company policy
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

JOB SUMMARY The Manager of General Accounting supervises and coordinates the financial activities of the Accounting personnel. Responsible for cash receipts, accounts receivable, a monthly analysis of accounts, monthly journal entries, bank reconciliations, and financial statements.

  • Reviews final financial statements before submission to the Director of Accounting.
  • Monitors the preparation of monthly journal entries, and approves for accuracy, appropriateness, and completeness.
  • Reviews, approves, and posts computerized cash receipts and cash disbursements to confirm the balance to the monthly statement.
  • Sets up systems and procedures to reconcile monthly balance sheet accounts and ensure that records are complete and accurate as well as review reconciliations.
  • Monthly bank account reconciliation.
  • Compares posted journal entries with monthly accounting calendar to determine the status of all scheduled activities and inform superiors of any changes.
  • Prepares special reports as requested.
  • Reviews processes for opportunities to change and improve the timeliness and effectiveness of the work of subordinates.
  • Works within a framework of internal controls designed to ensure accounts' integrity.
  • Reviews, approves and posts computerized accounting journals to complete the monthly and annual accounting cycles.
  • Assures that subordinate staff is organized to complete the monthly accounting cycle in a timely, complete, and accurate fashion.
  • Monitors the maintenance of accounting records.
  • Assists with annual financial audits

Qualifications

EDUCATION Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance.

OR:An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position's duties

EXPERIENCE At least four (4) years to seven (7) years of experience in financial accounting and management.

LICENSING REQU REMENTS/DEMANDS

  • A valid Louisiana Drivers License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
  • Must provide proof of being fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine before the start date.
  • Must submit to a criminal background check, the results of which must meet hiring criteria for the role.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Normal office environment.
