Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Health Technician II for the Hurtado Health Center. The Health Tech II reports directly to the Nurse Supervisor and provides direct health care support to the patients in collaboration with the other healthcare team members. Facilitates patient care and prepares patients for visits, assist clinicians with procedures, performs office tests and procedures as requested by clinicians.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Under the direct supervision of the Nurse Supervisor or his/her designee, provides basic health assessments and health care support to students.
  • Facilitates patient care by obtaining an appropriate health history and identifying the patient's reason for visit.
  • Prepares patient for visits, assists clinicians with procedures, and performs office tests and procedures as requested by clinicians.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • High school/vocational school education or equivalent.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of related paid experience.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Licensed Practical Nurse or Certified Medical Assistant.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Computer literacy, typing proficiency, and ability to use the Electronic Medical Record required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and be understood in English, maintain confidentiality, and be courteous and tactful under stress.
  • Requires the ability to multi-task, read health history forms and other medical documents, and interact with students.
  • Must be able to lift patients, push wheelchairs/stretchers and move from desk to exam room on a recurrent basis.
  • May involve evening hours.
  • May require floating to two satellite health centers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPR certification or ability and willingness to be trained and certified.

Equipment Utilized
  • Use of Computer, Electronic Medical Records (MEDICAT), EKG machine, CLIA waived Laboratory Testings (Urinalysis, Rapid Strep, Rapid flu), BP cuff, thermometer and scale.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able to lift patients, push wheelchairs/stretchers and move from desk to exam room on a recurrent basis.
