Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Business Manager I (Financial and Management Reporting) within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.The primary purpose of the Business Manager I position is to oversee financial and management reporting, implement internal controls, ensure transactions are in accordance with GAAP and complies with regulatory requirements, manage billing and receivables to unrestricted revenue sources and donations, and perform fiscal control over certain expenses.Among the key duties for this position are the following:
  • Creates effective work plans and works closely with staff by supervising and addressing their training needs to ensure competency in work performance and an understanding of financial reporting functions.
  • Oversees the development and submission of accurate and timely monthly consolidated financial statements to RBHS, including reportable activity from the Rutgers Cancer Institute operations, Grants & Contracts, Robert Wood Johnson Medical Group, Rutgers Biomedical Health Sciences Plant Fund, Rutgers University Foundation, and other affiliates.
  • Works across the finance department to update processes and procedures as needed due to changes in general ledger and financial reporting systems mandated by Rutgers University or the Rutgers Cancer Institute. Similarly ensures all new regulatory, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), University and Rutgers Cancer Institute requirements are met.
  • Directs the development of regular and ad hoc management reports by fund source, section, division, or disease group including P&Ls, metrics and dashboards needed to effectively manage the Rutgers Cancer Institute financial affairs. As needed, prepares presentation materials for the Director of Finance Operations, Executive Director of Finance and CFO as well as Rutgers Cancer Institute and University senior leadership.
  • Informs the Director of Finance Operation, Executive Director of Finance and/or Chief Financial Officer of issues requiring leadership attention such as negative trends, financial/compliance issues, significant budget variances and performance shortfalls.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field; plus four (4) years of related experience in financial reporting and systems, preferably in a health care/academic environment. Two (2) years of experience in personnel supervision and ability to supervise in a unionized environment.
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Maintaining confidentiality is required.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of financial database systems and reporting tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, the ability to function in a team environment and demonstrated knowledge of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment.
