The Position

Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

This position is located within the Hydraulic Design Division with Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) in Carson City. This position will work in a training capacity and under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer, performing staff engineering work in the Hydraulics Design Section, to include, but not limited to: hydrologic and hydraulic engineering analysis; designing river training systems, culverts, energy dissipaters; storm drains, detention basis, erosion control and water qualify facilities; and reviewing hydrologic, hydraulic design and best management practices reports, studies and plans. Assists in the coordination of water quality, erosion control project activities, and consultant design work; assists with the development and implementation of water related programs, assist at public hearing and informational meetings; and consultation to legal counsel. * NOTE: THIS POSITION MAY BE USED TO UNDERFILL FOR A STAFF 2, ASSOCIATE ENGINEER POSITION. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities.

A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
