Job Description
As a Principal Engineer, you will own and deliver the cloud services that enable key Media storage workloads at OCI. These services include Media Ingest, Augmentation and Analytics, Media Search and Organization, Media workflow and pipeline automation, Media workload migration etc . This is a unique opportunity to build a competitive product from ground up and extend OCI's reach into new opportunities within the media and entertainment industry. You will collaborate with engineering leaders to shape the path to success, leveraging your experience as a senior team member to influence and drive progress.
We are looking for someone with substantial experience in building, leading, and operating highly scalable and available cloud services .This individual contributor role requires exceptional soft skills along with the technical prowess. Strong communication abilities, leadership, and collaboration are essential. You will mentor engineers, drive complex technical projects, and lead initiatives independently. Experience with large-scale distributed file systems, object storage systems, databases designed for media content and metadata is desired.

Responsibilities
Work closely with other media services teams, product managers, and cloud infrastructure teams to design solutions that deliver the product vision while meeting the performance and cost requirements.
Build and optimize high-performance, low latency storage systems that can handle large-scale media content, including video/audio assets, and metadata.
Research and implement cutting-edge storage abstractions on top of object storage and distributed file systems.
Develop and maintain systems that efficiently organize, catalog, and track media assets across their lifecycle, ensuring easy access and retrieval for consumption, processing and delivery.
Work on optimizing storage costs and performance, including tiered storage strategies and implementing compression techniques to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Automate media ingestion, transcoding, and metadata extraction processes, integrating storage workflows into broader media asset management systems.
Implement data redundancy strategies to ensure high availability and data protection for critical media assets, including backup systems and disaster recovery plans.
Continuously monitor storage systems for performance bottlenecks and implement solutions for better throughput, latency, and fault tolerance.
Lead and mentor geographically distributed engineering teams
Qualifications
BS/CS Computer Science or related field and 5+ years software or systems development experience.
Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, Go.
Experience as a software lead working with public cloud platforms, distributed systems and cloud storage technologies, with good understanding of cost management and optimization strategies.
Experience building fault-tolerant, redundant storage solutions with disaster recovery mechanisms for large media assets.
Experience collaborating with geo-distributed teams.
Extensive background and experience in software implementation, code and design review, failure root cause analysis.
Experience designing for availability, scalability, observability and building self healing systems.
Highly Desired but not Required: Domain knowledge and experience with Media services especially media pipelines and workflows , MAM systems (Media asset Management) and designing scalable storage solutions optimized for globally distributed workflows and low latency collaborative access.

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $96,800 to $223,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
