How you will make an impact:
The individual in this role will be responsible for applying knowledge of technical principles and Edwards development procedures to advance innovative electronic systems for heart failure management. You will contributes expertise in analog design, RF communication, embedded systems, and signal processing as part of a cross-functional team developing the next generation of heart failure management technologies. Supports the full product development lifecycle—from concept and design through verification, validation, and commercialization.
Design, simulate, and verify analog front-end circuits for physiological sensing applications in implantable systems.
Integrate and optimize RF communication modules for reliable wireless telemetry in challenging in vivo environments.
Support firmware and embedded software development for data acquisition, processing, and control.
Contribute to FPGA-based design and real-time data handling, where applicable.
Utilize modeling software signal modeling, algorithm development, and analysis of physiologic data.
Develop prototypes, perform hands-on bench testing, and lead test data analysis .
Test, optimize and debug analog and digital RF circuitry using RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzer, network analyzer and high speed oscilloscopes.
Apply strong problem-solving skills to analyze complex technical issues and develop practical solutions.
Assist in testing the product for EMI/EMC compatibility and safety tests at accredited test labs.
Collaborate with software and systems engineering to implement real-time data acquisition, signal processing algorithms, and device control logic
Contribute to design documentation, including risk assessments, requirement specs, and design verification protocols in accordance with regulatory standards.
Collaborate closely with systems engineering, software, mechanical, and clinical teams to ensure integrated performance and safety.
Engage with suppliers and provide guidance on electronics-related technical requirements.
Interface with internal manufacturing teams and external contractors to optimize component selection, tolerance analysis, and DFM (Design for Manufacturability) practices.
Participate in design reviews, providing technical input and root cause analysis for design improvements and quality assurance
What you'll need (Required):
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering, or a related scientific field with 2 years of relevant experience –OR– Master’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering, or a related scientific field with applicable experience through internship, senior project, or thesis in Engineering or Scientific field including either industry or industry/education
What else we look for (Preferred):
Ability to apply core engineering principles and sound judgment in solving technical challenges
Ability to apply solid proficiency in analog and digital circuit design, including ADC/DAC interfaces, amplifiers, filters, and power regulation
Support the integration of RF communication systems and antenna design in low-power or implantable environments
Ability to solder/desolder components with ease
LabView proficiency
Expertise in near-field communication
Use embedded systems development skills, including C/C++ and firmware architecture for ARM Cortex-M or similar MCUs
Familiarity with HDL programming (VHDL or Verilog) and simulation tools for FPGA-based systems
Assist with hardware-software integration, including debugging with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG tools
Understanding of signal processing concepts such as filtering, FFT, and physiological data analysis in collaboration with systems engineers
Reference applicable standards such as IEC 60601-1, ISO 13485, and FDA QSR during product development
Prepare technical documentation, including design reviews and traceability to system-level requirements
Perform schematic capture and basic PCB layout tasks using EDA tools (e.g., Altium, Cadence)
Use standard engineering tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters) to support prototyping, verification, and other development activities.
Consider system reliability and fault-tolerance factors when evaluating embedded design trade-offs
Ability to apply basic statistical techniques when analyzing test results or guiding experimental design
Follow established development processes to ensure designs meet documented requirements and the expectations of relevant stakeholders
Communicate clearly in both written and verbal forms, contributing to engineering discussions and documentation
Follow Environmental Health & Safety and Quality guidelines in cleanroom and medical device environments
Manage tasks efficiently and stay organized to maintain steady progress across assignments
Maintain close attention to detail throughout design, testing, and documentation activities
Interact respectfully and professionally with colleagues across functional areas
Collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams and coordinate with external partners when needed
Prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment and respond to changing project needs
Build and maintain productive working relationships with team members, suppliers, and support teams

For Illinois (IL), the base pay range for this position is $85,000 to $120,000 (highly experienced). The pay for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience).
