Microsoft Corporation Senior Software Engineer - Azure Front Door in Multiple Locations, Australia

If yes, then join us as we are hiring a Senior Software Engineer in the Azure Front Door team. You will design and implement globally distributed, scalable and low latency services that offer application acceleration, and service protection to our critical crown jewels partners such as Office 365, Xbox, Azure services, LinkedIN and to Azure customers. You will collaborate closely within our team and other product teams at Microsoft to ensure we’re maximizing efficiency and deploying highly instrumented code to generate metrics across millions of requests/sec and records from thousands of servers located around the globe. You will embrace Open Source (both using and contributing), cross platform (Windows/Linux), and develop across languages (C/C++/C#).

Our mission is to delight our customers by providing L7 DDoS protection @Edge, HTTP level CDN, Global Load balancing and WAF protection against DoS and other threats to enable them to maintain high availability and consistency for their workloads.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, validate, and release software features to critical production components.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • You have 5 - 10 years + of software engineering experience. You need to be confident in your ability to tackle ambiguous problems, own projects end-to-end, reason about performance and reliability, and produce quality code.

  • You thrive in a multi-disciplinary environment - switching between coding, customer conversations, working with partners and on projects outside of your team, architecture discussions, design and development

  • 5+ years of programming experience in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, RUST, or other object-oriented programming. Golang and C# would be a plus.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field OR equivalent experience and 5 years of practical experience in commercial software development

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to quickly adapt to new technology and go deep.

  • Great curiosity and willingness to question. High enthusiasm, integrity, ingenuity, results-orientation, self-motivation, and resourcefulness in a fast-paced environment and solve problems by always leading with deep passion and empathy for customer

  • Role ideally based in Sydney, however some flexibilty here.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience with workload/container orchestration using Kubernetes or similar platforms.

  • Experience with container runtimes such as Docker, Rkt, runC, containers and how they are enabled by the underlying OS components.

  • Solid understanding of cloud development principles and patterns and excellent communications skills and ability to work collaboratively across several teams.

  • Drive for delivering high quality implementations and designs while also working on testing and operational aspects of the service as well

  • Communication and collaboration skills, including cross-group

  • Experience in designing and running fault tolerant infrastructure services that run globally on a large scale

  • Experience in any of the following areas is a plus: L7 data plane, distributed control plane, large scale web applications, asynchronous programming models

  • Distributed networking experience

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
