Description

  • Plans, coordinates, and supervises preventive maintenance, emergency maintenance, renovation, remodeling, and repair of equipment and facilities in assigned areas. Provides for the periodic inspection of equipment, facilities, and rendering of maintenance services as required.

  • Prepares cost estimates of work to be accomplished and materials to be used. Processes work order requests for approval and implementation.

  • Supervise ongoing projects such as the rebuilding and repair of electrical equipment, renovation and repair of offices and office furniture, installation of partitions, doors, walls, and security systems. Provides for transportation of labor, parts and equipment to and from job sites. Keeps informed on status of work in progress, back-logged projects, priorities, rate of production, etc.

  • Plans and implements preventive maintenance program, coordinating with grounds, custodial and the stationary engineer to ensure that all preventive maintenance is completed. Oversees & inspects all work performed and completed by outside contractors to ensure standards are met and maintained.

  • Ensures that tools and repair equipment are maintained and kept in a clean and serviceable condition, and ensures shop security of tools, equipment and supplies.

  • Prepares work schedules, assigns and explains work requirements, sets deadlines, various priorities. Resolves problems and effects necessary coordination between the maintenance mechanics and the other functional units and areas.

  • Ensures that all required internal controls/procedures have been compiled through the use of the prescribed regulations, contract policies and directives.

  • Assigns, reviews, accepts, amends or rejects completed work; sets performance standards; provides on the job training; advises on individual performance reviews, leave requests, recommends personnel action for subordinate maintenance mechanics.

  • Ensures compliance with established safety, security, fire prevention procedures and regulations.

  • Keeps abreast of and actively supports and as required, implements the provision of pertinent public laws, directives relating to the Equal Employment Opportunity Program.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned including snow removal.

This is a Support Staff union position as stated in the Support Staff collective bargaining agreement- Grade H

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Supervises the activities of the Maintenance Mechanic staff

OVERALL PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:

The primary and most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the College community.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Required:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience Required:

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible general work experience, plus a combination of four (4) years experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities.

  • Must have demonstrated ability for supervising subordinate staff, including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.

Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements

  • Must have a valid NJ Drivers License.

  • Must have hands on working knowledge of hand powered and shop tools such as powered saws, drills, planers, joiner, drill presses, lathes, etc.

Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
