POSITION SUMMARY: Perform skilled and semi-skilled work in construction, maintenance, repair, and operation of buildings; grounds maintenance of the County Fairgrounds to contribute to their safe, useful, and attractive condition and operation. The County Fairgrounds cover a substantial area and contain a variety of buildings for such uses as housing exhibits and displays and for accommodating large group meetings and events. These buildings include food booths, grandstands, livestock and equestrian arenas, animal pens, campgrounds, seldom-used buildings, and buildings used daily or weekly. One must love working outdoors to excel in this position. The work includes carpentry, electrical, plumbing, irrigation, turf management, welding, building cleaning and maintenance, and the operation of power tools and equipment, including tractors and similar vehicles. The County Fairgrounds and its several buildings are maintained by a full-time staff qualified in building construction and maintenance, supplemented by part-time seasonal workers during peak times. Positions in the Maintenance IV class are qualified at a basic skill level in areas such as carpentry, electrical and plumbing work, welding, grounds maintenance, and general automotive maintenance. They should be able to prove journey-level skill in at least one trade. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following examples of duties and accountabilities illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be assigned in a manner consistent with the general scope of the position. Employees must comply with all County and department policies, procedures, WACs, or other regulatory bodies. ? Building Maintenance: Tasks include a broad range of carpentry work in the building, repairing or remodeling structures, installing and repairing electrical systems, and installing and repairing plumbing fixtures and systems. Tasks include building concrete forms, pouring and finishing concrete foundations and floors, painting buildings, and welding with gas and electric equipment. Assigned work also includes cleaning restrooms and other facilities. ? Ground Maintenance: This involves mowing, raking, sweeping, irrigating, fertilizing, and trimming lawns, trees, flowers, and shrubs. This work requires power equipment, including mowers, trimmers, trucks, backhoes, and tractors. Tasks also include routine maintenance and repair of irrigation systems and the maintenance of RV pedestals and pads. ? Event Preparation and Operations: May assist in setting up platforms, tents, displays, bleachers, tables, chairs, and other event arrangements, including the annual Fair. It also involves tasks to maintain events, including trash collection, ground preparation of arenas, moving stock panels, setting up PA systems, and other activities. ? General Maintenance: Perform preventive and general maintenance of vehicles and grounds maintenance equipment. ? This position will also perform other duties, as assigned, including unexpected tasks not included in the essential job duties above.
