The Staff Integration Engineer will provide commissioning support for a variety of complex utility projects and programs, including supervisory control and data acquisition, packet-based networks, distribution automation, cyber security, microwave radios, wireless networks (including 4G/5G PLTE), fiber optics, and smart grid applications. The Staff Integration Engineer will work in the field with project teams and subcontractors to support the installation of rack or wall mount electronic equipment, make ready cabling, field engineering, commissioning, and start-up solutions for project designs by the Networks, Integration & Automation (NIA) team for client projects throughout the nation.
Major responsibilities include:
Perform pre-engineering site visits per defined checklists.
Oversight of self-perform or subcontractor installation.
Assess physical installation readiness for commissioning based on design specifications.
Perform physical changes based on design specifications: inside building fiber, copper cabling via existing raceway, install rack- or wall-mount devices, jumper fiber, copper cables to devices / FDPs / patch panels, install/remove device SFPs, punch down low-voltage cables (66/110 blocks, RJ11 for phones, wire-wrap), etc.
Perform testing of cables, pinouts, fiber, feedline, automation points, etc. using applicable tools to include test fiber optic cables, toggle and test automation points at cutouts, test terminals, trace cables; ringtone if cable without tone, butt set for cable with tone, conduct loopback tests to remote ends, test radio feedline for coax and waveguide on device-based, electronic and application tests.
Power on devices using standard panel breaker and rack fuses.
Conduct visual confirmation of successful device turn-up.
Connect to devices and load base configurations per industry standards.
Commission site and client application verification according to industry accepted commissioning standards.
Responsible for troubleshooting on device-based, electronic, and application tests, making changes as needed to meet client specifications.
Review and update intermediate level as-built documentation for publication to client.
Establish and maintain relationships with client field staff on scope, progress, and return of removed devices.
Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
Other duties as assigned.
Ancillary responsibilities may include providing office-based engineering design support during gaps in field work:
Support design of telecommunications networks utilizing client standards or developing new standards.
Support project deliverables such as: bill of materials, specifications, yard layouts, equipment plans, sections and details, wiring diagrams, control building arrangements, DC calculations, cable lists, SCADA points lists, device configuration files, network architecture diagrams, channel plans, RF path studies, and cutover plans
Support execution of complex assignments requiring the use of advanced tools and techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment and/or technological methods.
Identify, communicate and support resolution of issues on projects as needed.
Provide guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members.
Work with the project manager to support project schedule and meet deadlines.
Work closely with the project team to ensure deliverables and services are being provided to client’s satisfaction and that projects are following internal QA/QC guidelines.
Perform design quality reviews.
Meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel to develop relationships with key client points of contact.
Provide support in preparing proposals and presentations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical, computer or other related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited program.
Minimum of 3 years utility telecommunications project or related experience.
Engineering in Training registration preferred.
Consulting experience preferred.
Minimum of 3 years utility telecommunications project or related experience.
Experience in mission-critical environments (military, utility, industrial, transportation, etc.) or related field strongly preferred.
Strong troubleshooting skills and understanding of electrical and communications systems and industry standards.
Engineering in Training registration preferred.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to apply intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad assignments and devise new approaches to problems encountered.
Ability to handle large volumes of work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated leadership experience.
Must be able to meet the company's driving requirements.
Additional Physical Qualifications:
Work locations could include office-based or construction jobsites ranging from commercial to heavy industrial environments that include working in adverse climates, and extensive walking, requiring stairs, passenger use of personal hoists, negotiating work areas under construction, climbing permanent and temporary ladders, occasional lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to sit, talk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and bend.
Specific vision abilities required for this job includes: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to hear and perceive the nature of sounds by ear.
Must be able to safely operate motor vehicles. May at times need to access confined spaces or work locations at elevation requiring utilization of respirators, self-contained breathing apparatus, and/or fall protection.
Projects require occasional long hours and infrequent days off, occasional night shifts or moderate to long periods of working consecutive nights.

Compensation Range
$120,000-$165,000
This job posting will remain open a minimum of 72 hours and on an ongoing basis until filled
