Lift material over 50 lbs . Work in extreme hot or cold areas, such as steam tunnels and coolers Use excellent eye to hand coordination . Hear and interpret sounds in work area, as well as verbal instructions DESCRIPTION: The Department of Facilities and Services at the Health Sciences Center is accepting applications for a Painter Trades Specialist I. This position is primarily responsible for preparing and painting various surfaces for Health Sciences facilities and associated research areas. 37.5-hour work week 13 paid holidays (staff holiday calendar) 15 annual leave (vacation) days per year, or more based on years of service (employee leave) 18 sick days per year (for when you’re ill, for when you need time to care for sick family, for your own, or your family’s, regularly scheduled medical appointments. What You'll Do Prepare and finish various wood surfaces, such as doors and cabinets, utilizing proper materials and techniques. Prepare and paint equipment as assigned, ensuring equipment is locked and tagged out and following all safety instructions related to the equipment. Ensure safety barriers, procedures, equipment, etc. are properly utilized. Operate and maintain various equipment associated with the painting trade, such as mixers, tinting equipment, shakers, spray machines, etc. Fill in for the Manager and/or Lead or assist other crafts as needed. Pay Grade: 13 QUALIFICATIONS: Must have high school diploma or GED. Must have one of the following: Two (2) years of experience with all types of surface preparation and professional applications of oil and latex based paints. Completion of an associate degree in building maintenance or other craft trade. Completion of a 2-year accredited vocational craft trades program. Broad knowledge of various building trades is preferred. Knowledge of local, state and federal building codes. Ability to read blue prints and construction diagrams.
