National Institutes of Health Lead Immigration Specialist in Montgomery County, Maryland

Responsibilities As a Lead Immigration Specialist, your duties will include: Leads a team of Immigration Specialists and contract staff as assigned in providing the full range of visa and immigration program services. Provides leadership to a team advising NIH staff and foreign scientists in the development and preparation of nonimmigrant J-1, TN, H-1B, and O-1 petitions, along with No Objection Statement (NOS) and Interested Government Agency (IGA) waiver (212e) applications and immigrant petitions in support of Lawful Permanent Residency. Leads and conducts the analysis of the operational impact of changes in law or regulations, identifies issues and proposes methods for implementation. Creates and delivers training sessions and demonstrates procedures for visa processing, fact gathering techniques, use of automated systems, and forms and documentation preparation. Manage, update and maintain documents, SOPs, case flows, liaison work with outside organizations or contractors to accomplish special projects. Works with staff in continuously monitoring the need for and provision of maintenance and updates to the DIS website. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify at the GS-13 level: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: coaching a team of immigration specialists and advising the supervisor on team training needs; providing recommendations for resolving complex interrelated immigration problems and issues; responds to complex customer requests pertaining to immigration issues with individualized attention; conducting presentations/workshops/orientations that provide immigration and cultural information to staff and foreign scientists; and interpreting applicable immigration laws and regulations.
