Annual Salary Range: $66,096 - $118,323

*Salary commensurate with education and experience.

*Job Summary*

As a Nondestructive Evaluation Engineer at BPMI, you will participate in nondestructive test (NDT) inspections to assist in the evaluation of the condition of naval nuclear hardware, at a supplier or at a shipyard. You will apply nondestructive inspection techniques to assist in the resolution of technical problems, which may include development of nondestructive testing training material, evaluation of supplier inspection techniques and procedures, as well as oversight of supplier inspections of naval nuclear components.

This position requires knowledge and application of engineering techniques, principles, and practices employed in the area of assignment. You will be responsible to maintain the technical excellence of the Company within the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.

*Essential Duties:*

 

 

  • Develop technical knowledge and skills in nondestructive testing methods and applications by pursuing training and qualification in appropriate methods and techniques (visual, ultrasonic, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, radiographic and leak testing).
  • Participate in nondestructive testing training development for Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA), Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), BPMI, Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL), shipyards, and suppliers.
  • Assist in the study, design, application, analyses, test or the preparation of nondestructive testing specifications and processes for systems, materials, equipment, or components relating to a limited aspect of the group's function.
  • Participate in oversight of production inspections utilizing the various nondestructive testing techniques to support technical evaluations and problem resolutions with guidance.
  • Support other engineers who are performing related work.
  • Communicate status on a periodic basis to immediate management.
  • Develop an understanding of component and system interrelationships.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports or procedures in accordance with Naval Reactors (NR) program quality standards.
  • Complete training and work assignments that are planned to provide experience and familiarization with the engineering methods and practices of the Company.
  • Evaluate vendor prepared procedures and supporting documents; participate in technical discussions with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in the preparation of letters to the Government providing technical information, recommending approval of technical actions or obtaining approval of funding.

*Minimum Job Requirements:*

 

 

 

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred for newer college graduates.
  • Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.

*Pre erred Job Requirements:*

 

 

 

 

  • Nondestructive testing experience (visual, ultrasonic, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, radiographic, eddy current or leak testing).
  • Experience with ASNT-TC-1A and Level I, II, or III certification.
