NY1533577 Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Mechanic needed for Herkimer County Sewer District in Mohawk, NY.
Pay rate is $49,207 per year.
This position may be filled from a certified list of eligibles or with exception that a person may be eligible for promotion, transfer or reinstatement according to civil service rules.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position exists in the Herkimer County Wastewater Treatment Plant and involves responsibility for independently performing a variety of skilled mechanical, hydraulic and electromechanical installation, repair and maintenance tasks on plant and substation equipment. The work is performed under general supervision of the Chief Operator with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the technical details of the work. This class differs from that of less skilled positions in the maintenance field by virtue of the more skilled nature of the work and occasional supervisory responsibility when the need arises. Supervision may be exercised over the work of subordinate maintenance employees. The incumbent does related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of pumps, valves, hydraulic regulators, control gates and equipment related to wastewater treatment; thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and safety precautions of one or more mechanical trades; working knowledge of pneumatic controls and vacuum and pressure release valves; ability to work from plans, specifications and rough sketches; ability to make a variety of mechanical and electrical repairs; ability to use gas and electric welding equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; initiative and resourcefulness in solving mechanical problems; manual dexterity; mechanical aptitude; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Either:(A) Two years of experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of
mechanical, electrical and hydraulic equipment;
Or:(B) An equivalent combination of training and experience as outlined in (a) above.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid New York State CDL-B within 1 year of permanent appointment.
