Overview

The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Supervisor plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the pharmacy department. This position is responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily activities of pharmacy technicians, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and organizational standards. The supervisor will work closely with the pharmacy leadership team to support the department's goals and objectives, particularly in the areas of safety, accuracy, and patient care. The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to drive continuous improvement in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Responsibilities Job Description

  • Supervision and Leadership: Oversee the daily operations of the inpatient pharmacy technicians, providing guidance, support, and performance evaluations. Ensure all staff adhere to established policies, procedures, and safety standards.

  • Communication and Coordination: Maintain open and effective communication with the pharmacy leadership team and other departments. Attend evening campus staff huddles and campus operations meetings to support improvement initiatives.

  • Operational Efficiency: Identify opportunities for process improvements within the pharmacy department. Lead or participate in quality improvement projects and initiatives.

  • Administrative Duties: Review leadership meeting notes and actions, and follow up with any necessary questions or clarifications. Oversee scheduling, budgeting, and inventory management for the pharmacy technicians under your supervision. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports to discuss performance, provide feedback, and address any concerns or development needs.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a pharmacy technician training program is preferred.

  • Certification: Current certification as a pharmacy technician (CPhT) required. State-specific licensure may also be required.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a pharmacy technician.

  • Preferred qualification: 1-2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
