The pay range is $92,000.00 - $166,000.00

A role in Food Safety Quality and Regulatory (FSQR) compliance means working in a critical area that will support Target’s efforts to identify, prioritize and minimize areas of food safety risk as well as proactively educate and equip team members by providing simplified tools, processes, and training. You will have many resources available as you leverage technology, metrics, reporting, and communication to monitor and drive compliance in this critical area.

  • Assess food safety issues with appropriate internal and external partners

  • Ensure cross functional representatives and leaders within Target are engaged and informed of high risk food safety issues

  • Lead and facilitate discussions with business leaders, the recall team, and the cross-functional risk response teams, ensuring thorough review of situations and acting with integrity to protect Target’s guests and brand

  • Lead, coordinate, and manage recall events and related product removals across the supply chain and digital channels

  • Engage with and represent Target in interactions with regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance and fostering positive relationships

  • Review, approve, and draft press releases involving Target, in conjunction with Target Law and Communications teams

  • Develop and maintain a documented food recall and withdrawal program, ensuring processes in meet regulatory requirements

  • Ensure a 7-day food recall support plan is implemented and effective

  • Provide food recall training, food recall coverage and after hour food recall support, as needed

  • Manage the Data & Systems function in FSQR which provides metrics and visibility to data across food safety quality and regulatory teams at Target

  • Oversee guest complaint and inquiry processes for FSQR team, ensuring accurate documentation and timely communication is provided to partners for investigation

  • Identify and prioritize process/technology continuous improvement and automation opportunities

  • Partner with data science and product teams to ensure prioritization of FSQR technology needs, influencing without authority to enable outcomes for FSQR compliance

  • Lead team to facilitate providing information requested for Food Safety, Quality & Regulatory data by partnering with internal team and external business partners

  • Ensure vendor FSQR compliance with Target requirements and regulations, balancing internal & external risks, while supporting business priorities and guest needs. Partner with vendors to complete FSQR program reviews such as desk audits, on-site assessments, and other regulatory and compliance activities.

  • Develop, attract, and retain a high performing team of subject matter experts to advance the strategy, capabilities and execution of food safety, quality & regulatory compliance for Target

  • Maintain working knowledge of the existing applicable regulations and regulatory environment, including pending regulations involving food recalls and related activities to assess impact to Target and provide recommendations for compliance

  • Remain calm in stressful situations; with legal support, this position can be deposed in court to provide testimony related to recall investigations and findings

  • Model and promote a culture which champions Target’s values and FSQR compliance

About you:

  • Four-year college degree, in food science or related discipline

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience (i.e., retail/grocery/manufacturing/regulatory)

  • Proficiency in FDA and USDA food recall requirements

  • Program and process management/ownership experience

  • Ability to operate in an ambiguous and rapidly changing work environment

  • Must be comfortable working independently, with minimal oversight, setting own objectives and measuring against goals

  • Analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to facilitate meetings, resolve conflict, establish rapport, and collaborate effectively across teams

  • Ability to resolve problems that are without clear precedent

  • Ability to establish and maintain cross-functional working relationships across the enterprise

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Strong conflict management skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, potential interactions ranging from senior leaders to subject matter experts

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
