Aston Carter Sr. Cost Accountant in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Job Title: Cost AccountantJob Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our team. You will be responsible for inventory accounting, developing standard costs, analyzing production variances, and leading the annual physical inventory process. You will also support the budget process, manage fixed assets, and perform transaction analysis within our ERP system to ensure accurate financial performance reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain inventory accounting processes including standard cost development, inventory valuation, cycle counting, and reconciling discrepancies.

  • Lead the annual physical inventory process and analyze inventory reserves such as obsolete, slow-moving, and PPV.

  • Support the budget process by developing standard overhead rates, capital expenditures, and assisting operational functions with annual spending budgets.

  • Manage fixed assets and capital expenditure reporting.

  • Analyze transactions within the ERP system to determine their impact on the company’s financial performance.

  • Assess Work In Progress to ensure proper allocation of labor and materials and proactive analysis of variance categories such as material usage, purchase price, and freight.

  • Execute month-end system closing transactions and reconcile General Ledger accounts.

  • Prepare and present financial reports, cost analysis reports, and other management reports to support decision-making.

  • Help maintain data integrity within the ERP system, ensuring consistency and providing support to all departments when changes are requested for new or updated information.

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years’ experience in cost accounting.

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.

  • Experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Working knowledge of GAAP.

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel (including pivot tables and vlookups).

  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, EPICOR, or ORACLE.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with various departments such as Engineering, Purchasing, and Operations.

Work Environment

This position is based in a smaller office that is part of a large, publicly traded company. While we require five days onsite, we offer flexibility for life’s unexpected events. Our team includes an Accounting Manager, VP of Finance, and you'll frequently collaborate with Engineering and Purchasing departments. We currently use Epicor, with a planned transition to SAP in 2026. You will be involved in this company-wide initiative. Expect to use Excel extensively for budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $50.48/hr.
