In addition to basic laboratory skills, the ideal candidate should be a critical thinker, independent, and detail-oriented, have strong a work ethic, and excellent communication skills. The candidate will be responsible for all of the day-to-day roles of the core as well as quality control and improvements of CyTOF panels offered by the core. The candidate will also interact with internal and external researchers to design, plan, and execute CyTOF experiments. The successful candidate will be able to help drive CyTOF projects from initial design through publication. About the CyTOF core Mass cytometry (CyTOF) is a form of single-cell proteomic analysis that employs a modified time-of-flight mass spectrometer to measure relative protein abundance. The overall objective of the MiBAM CyTOF Core is to provide lab support and services for cellular analysis including quality-controlled platforms, validated custom reagents, and analyses of CyTOF data. About MiBAM The University of Minnesota's Masonic Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism is an interdisciplinary team aiming at advancing research on the fundamental biology of aging. Our goal is to discover ways to therapeutically target aging, which will enable extending the healthspan. Responsibilities Design, coordination, and execution of research experiments (70%) - Independently design panels, validate antibodies, and execute CyTOF experiments - Perform custom antibody conjugations - Acquire and analyze CyTOF data - Perform daily laboratory maintenance tasks such as replenishing reagents, remove hazardous and chemical waste - participate in collaborative studies in association with P01 and other multi-PI grants General Core Management (30%) - Purchase laboratory supplies - Oversee the use of and maintenance of equipment - Supervise and mentor undergraduate and junior researchers - Interact with researchers interested in utilizing the core, including experimental design and processing of quotes from internal UMN researchers and external researchers Qualifications Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - BA/BS degree plus at least five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least nine years - Experience with Cytometry by Time of Flight (CyTOF), specifically in-house antibody conjugation, validation, sample staining, sample acquisition, and machine troubleshooting - Mammalian cell culture experience, both primary and cell line - Lab management experience; maintaining lab supply levels and lab equipment - Experience with purchasing and processing of quotes Pay and Benefits Pay Range: $30 - 36/hr; depending on education/qualifications/experience Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment Position Type: Civil-Service & Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff Please visit the Office of Human Resources website for more information regarding benefit eligibility.
