Performing/assisting with feeding and exercise related mouse experiments. Performing/assisting with pain (tail flick, von Frey, rotor rod, etc.) related mouse experiments. 30% Genotyping (PCR) and maintaining knockout mice breeding colonies, general rodent husbandry procedures, recording keeping in laboratory notebook and weekly Microsoft Excel files. Handling and collecting data, blood, and tissue samples for mice participating in exercise and feeding related experiments. 10% Cleaning and maintaining specialized mouse cage equipment. 5% Assisting in the writing of technical reports and articles for publication. Review of the literature relating to research. Critically review literature, attend meetings where data will be presented and contribute. *The University of Minnesota is an equal opportunity employer and educator Qualifications Required qualifications: (Must be documented) Bachelor's degree in a scientific field or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as computer literacy (proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint). The ability to perform statistical analysis using ANOVA approaches and the appropriate software. Ability to work independently, reliable and self- motivated. Ability to meet deadlines and work in a high-paced environment. Attentiveness to details, highly organized and initiative driven, excellent organization and communication skills. Preferred qualifications: Research experience maintaining and genotyping knockout mouse breeding colonies, working with and maintaining specialized experimental mouse cages, keeping mouse husbandry records, and conducting tissue dissections & experimental procedures. Experience with mouse facial blood draw techniques, general molecular biology techniques (PCR, running DNA gels), antibody-based assays (ELISA and sandwich assays), and preparing and renewing IACUC protocols desirable.
