The postdoctoral associate will be expected to independently design and carry out experiments aimed at understanding the mechanisms that govern toxin function. 15% Presentation of Data. It is expected that the postdoctoral associate will regularly communicate the results of their work during group-meetings and at scientific conferences. The postdoctoral associate will also be expected to regularly prepare manuscripts and publish their results in top-tier journals. 10% Training of Lab Personnel. The postdoctoral associate will be expected to contribute to the training of junior personnel in the lab. About the Lab: Research in the Sheedlo lab is focused on defining the mechanisms that govern interactions at the host-pathogen interface. Specifically, we are interested in using structural biology (cryo-electron microscopy and X-ray crystallography) to obtain a framework that we can then probe in a physiologically relevant context. Of particular interest is understanding how the Gram-positive pathogen, Clostridioides difficile, uses toxins and effectors to elicit disease. For more information, please visit: Michael Sheedlo, PhD | Medical School - University of Minnesota (umn.edu) Qualifications Required Qualifications: The successful candidate will have recently obtained a PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, or a related field. Previous experience in recombinant protein expression, purification, and characterization is required. Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have 2-5 years of experience in at least one of the following areas: biochemical assay development, biophysical characterization, and/or high-resolution imaging. Previous experience in determining protein structures using either Cryo-EM or X-ray crystallography is desired, but not mandatory.
