Police officers may also be assigned to investigative or other specialty assignments such as bike patrol or motorcycle patrol. We will be accepting applications until Thursday, April 24th at 5pm. Duties: and Responsibilities * Patrolling property owned, leased, or operated by the Regents of the University of Minnesota (specifically the Twin Cities campus) * Providing a safe environment for university students, staff, faculty, and visitors * Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service. * Enforcing applicable statutes and ordinances * Providing emergency medical assistance * Working with the University community to increase safety through collaboration, problem-solving, and education. * Other duties as assigned, including investigative or other specialty assignments such as bike patrol or motorcycle patrol. * This job may be designated as essential. * 50% - Patrol assigned area on foot, bicycle, motorcycle, or patrol car while interacting with the community and delivering service. * * 20% - Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service. * * 10% - Direct automobile, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic on or near campus. * * 5% - Administer medical treatment when necessary. * * 5% - Traffic enforcement in and around the University area; arrests violators of local ordinances and State and Federal statutes. * * 5% - Work with the University community to increase safety through collaboration, problem-solving, and education. * * 5% - Other duties as assigned. * * = Essential Functions of Position Work Environment * The work is primarily performed on a large and urban university campus. Police officers work in demanding and extreme physical environments and may be required to be in dangerous situations that pose a risk to their personal safety and health, such as incidents involving the threat of, or actual use of, a dangerous or deadly weapon by another individual. Police officers must be able to work at all times of the day and every day of the year. They must also be able to work in various types of weather and disaster conditions. They must have the ability to act with authority in stressful situations to keep and/or maintain the peace. Police Officers may have to lift heavy objects and individuals, run after individuals, climb fences/walls and stairs, and operate a motor vehicle in extreme conditions. Compensation Package * Hourly pay rates range from $38.36 to $54.87 based on experience, with rate increases after 12, 24, and 36 months of service. * The University will pay a one-time $5,000 Hire Bonus lump sum to each licensed peace officer hired by a University Police Department. * Competitive benefits include a tuition reimbursement program that covers 100% of the tuition cost for eligible employees pursuing their first baccalaureate degree and 75% of the tuition cost for all other eligible employees with supervisor approval. Qualifications Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: * Have a Two Degree (Associate) from a regionally accredited program and be enrolled in a professional peace officer education program. * Eligibility to be licensed as a peace officer by July 8th, 2025, by the Minnesota POST Board. * Able to remain licensed throughou employment. * Pass a pre-employment background investigation. * Possess a valid U.S. Driver's license with a good driving record. * Candidates who receive a conditional job offer must pass a psychological exam and a fitness for duty physical exam. Preferred Qualifications * Candidates with prior relevant sworn law enforcement experience are preferred. These candidates will participate in an abbreviated field training program and are eligible to be hired at up to the 24 months of service step and receive the 36 month/top police officer rate, depending on experience. * Previous experience as a Community Service Officer, Detention Deputy, Park Patrol Agent, Parking Enforcement Officer, Police Cadet, or similar non-sworn law enforcement work experience. * Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited program * Demonstrated focus on servicing the community. * Experience in a multicultural community * Volunteer experience * Fluency in a second language Pay and Benefits Pay Range: $38.36-54.87, depending on education/qualifications/experience Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment Position Type:Civil-Service & Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff Please visit the Office of Human Resources website for more information regarding benefit eligibility.
