Fairview Health Services Pharmacy Technician I - Retail in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview

Assist the Site Manager/Pharmacist-In-Charge with tasks in the pharmacy. Respond to and resolve insurance questions, process prescriptions, and address issues quickly and accurately. Provide and promote exceptional customer service, assist in preparing and dispensing medications and supplies, enter new and refill prescriptions in the computer system, work with physician offices to obtain refill requests, handle cash register transactions, receive patient prescriptions, unpack/verify stock-to-invoices and help maintain the pharmacy in proper order.

Location : Riverside Professional Building, located in Minneapolis, MN.

Hours : Casual, will pick up shifts, dependent on department needs

Responsibilities Job Description

  • Receive prescriptions from patients and gather appropriate information. Assist in the preparation and dispensing of medications and supplies as assigned, including counting, pouring and labeling prescriptions. Process manual prescriptions including Medicare B, VA Medical, and Worker’s Compensation, in an efficient and accurate manner.Complete special orders to meet customers’ needs.

  • Verify insurance and resolve issues in a manner that will serve the customer’s needs. Address third party prescription questions, which may include prior authorizations, vacation supplies, dose changes, price check and drug utilization review.

  • Process new and refill prescriptions in the computer system quickly and accurately; including entering refill authorization requests and entering and calculating complex prescriptions such as compounds and injectables.

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the computer system. Utilize the reporting system as necessary.

  • Respond to internal and external customer questions and concerns in a professional and customer-focused manner. Handle cash register transactions quickly and accurately.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • High school diploma/GED.

Required Experience

  • Any retail and/or pharmacy experience.

Required License/Certification/Registration

  • Active technician pharmacy registration with the MN Board of Pharmacy.

  • Active national pharmacy technician certification (CPhT).

Preferred Education

  • Graduate of an approved pharmacy technician program

Preferred Experience

  • One to three years of retail and/or pharmacy experience.

Additional Requirements

  • Excellent customer service skills, proficient in the English language, good attention to detail, ability to problem solve effectively, ability to follow policies and procedures, basic math skills, basic typing skills and excellent communication skills.
