International Trade Compliance Manager

ABOUT YOU:

As the International Trade Compliance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring import and export compliance with US Customs regulations and applicable international trade laws for both raw materials and finished goods. Your primary responsibility will be to provide internal consulting and advanced customs technical knowledge specifically for, although not limited to, the United States, Canada, Dominican Republic, Mexico, China, Thailand, and Vietnam. You will provide guidance and support to the organization’s supply chain, logistics, and legal teams to drive compliance and decisions regarding trade compliance issues and problems that arise in connection with international trade activities.

YOU HAVE:

  • Leadership. Proven leadership experience in driving solutions, holding others accountable, concise, and confident in communications (verbal and written). Strong critical thinking skills and proven skills in adaptability.

  • Technical skills. Intermediate – advanced MS Excel skills. Experience with NAFTA/USMCA, CAFTA, and CARM.

  • Project management. Proactive in recognizing and adjusting shifting priorities. Ability to work on and prioritize diverse projects simultaneously. Ability to meet deadlines and manage many projects simultaneously.

  • Great communication skills. Leverages strong communication skills to lead without authority up and down multiple levels of the organization. Ability to communicate and build relationships across multiple functions and levels of the organization and external suppliers.

  • Experience. Minimum of 3-5 years of international trade and global customs experience in compliance within a global organization. Experience with bidding and implementing Customs brokers in various countries. Experience with bidding and implementing Global Trade Management Systems

  • Education. Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Accounting, Applied Economics, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Licensed Customs Broker (USA)

  • Preferred. Advanced degree or certification such as a Law Degree, Compliance, International Logistics, Customs Work, or International Studies. Bilingual.

    YOU WILL:

  • Create and manage audit process where needed and conduct audits to ensure compliance with import/export documentation, duty drawback, free trade agreements, license determination, application of cross border taxes, recordkeeping, valuation, and HTS classifications.

  • Utilize trade compliance software to perform audits of import/export entries, and where software not available, complete manual audits of import/export requirements, recommending tools where needed.

  • Identify and implement corrective action plans based on audit results leveraging trade compliance expertise.

  • Advise. Manage relationships and act as lead interface between freight forwarders, government agencies, customs brokers and designated trade compliance affiliates; periodically lead reviews of broker performance.

  • Deliver savings and cost avoidance for the company by ideating and implementing continuous improvements to trade processes and risk mitigation.

  • Determination of HTS classification for duty rates and FTA eligibility for new product development including raw materials, components, and manufactured goods.

  • Manage Consumer Product Testing compliance requirements including documentation and collaboration with supply chain and legal.

  • Typical/expected % of overnight travel: Up to 25%
