Job Duties:

  • Assist Merchandise Manager in the planning process including the development of purchasing, assortment, and merchandising plans for consumer bunches and bouquets. Process includes: product selection, assortment planning, purchase quantity, stock level calculations, product pricing, and product flow schedule.

  • Aid in development of fresh new bouquet and consumer bunches that are in season and in trend.

  • Collaborate with external vendors to procure product to support sales.

  • Work with vendors to ensure Bachman’s is getting the best possible price, quality, and shipping terms. Resolve any issues that may arise.

  • In season execution of plans for all product including assortment planning, financial planning / forecasting, vendor negotiations, order writing, and replenishment.

  • Use internal systems and other analytics to create purchase orders / product transfers to all store channels.

  • Communicate with receiving areas all purchase order information. Work with them to problem solve as necessary.

  • Assist in providing merchandising direction to the stores and make sure products, displays, signage and advertising are meeting the standards and goals of Bachman’s.

  • Gather information from stores, suppliers and customers about product and adjust as needed.

  • Support other areas within Bachman’s (L&B, Website, Grower Direct, Garden Maintenance / Landscape and Wholesale). Collaborate in the product selection, financial planning, and product procurement for these areas.

  • Develop content for floral signage.

  • Other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications:

  • College degree in related field, or equivalent experience

  • Retail experience with 2-5 years of buying / merchandising / procurement or inventory management desired.

  • Ability to develop a business strategy and execute a purchasing plan based upon financials, historical information, and consumer & market trends.

  • Strong mathematical / financial skills are a must. This position requires the ability to plan, execute and control a complicated procurement plan and operate within departmental open to buy (financial plan) and operating budgets. 

  • Must like to work in a collaborative environment yet be highly self-motivated and able to work independently as well.

  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office are required. Experience with POS Systems is desired.

  • Ability and confidence to forecast future trends in the marketplace. 

  • Strong communication, problem solving, organizational and decision-making skills are necessary.

  • Previous buying experience desired.  

  • Horticulture background a plus.

    Schedule:

  •  Monday – Friday 40-45 hours per week, more hours required during key holiday seasons (including Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Mother’s Day).
