TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION K082 Equipment Mechanic I or II - Mineola Maintenance in Mineola, Texas

Performs repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in the Fleet Operations Division Shop or a District Maintenance Section. Work may require maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in construction of highways/bridges and inspecting work performed by contracted vendors. Work may require contact with other governmental agencies and private contractors. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments, however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Equipment Mechanic II: Performs advanced repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in the Fleet Operations Division Shop or a District Maintenance SectionEssential Duties:Equipment Mechanic I and II:Checks lighting and wiring mechanisms to ensure proper functioning of headlights, spotlights, tail lights and parking lights.Completes repair order paperwork and accurately enters data into fleet information management system.Orders, picks up and delivers parts, materials, tools, and operates equipment and vehicles to include heavy equipment.Performs emergency spot repairs.Performs preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs on motor vehicles/equipment; as required moves items related to these activities.Performs quality assurance/analysis on repaired vehicles and equipment.Prepares vehicles for use by checking for required safety features such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers and mobile radios.Repairs and adjusts steering assemblies.Troubleshoots, tests and repairs electrical systems, electronic ignitions and fuel injection systems.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Additional duties for Equipment Mechanic IIAdjusts brakes and replaces brake system parts to include air brake and anti-locking systemsPerforms acetylene and electric arc welding repairs.Performs annual state safety inspections on vehicles to include DOT required inspections.Uses computerized diagnostic analyzer systems and performs complex diagnostic work on vehicles/equipment. Trains less experience technicians
