JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Description: POSITION TITLE Research Technologist I Purpose A Research Technician position is available in the Department of Biochemistry focused on uncovering the roles of epigenetic proteins in diabetes. We welcome highly motivated and well-organized candidates to support department research through projects, maintenance, and communication of data, and execution of laboratory experiments. Primary Functions Perform daily tissue culture for maintenance, including differentiation of stem cell lines. Perform routine and complex experiments via real-time polymerase chain reaction, chromatin immunoprecipitation, western blotting, and immunostaining. Record and compile accurate records and communicate summaries of experimental results. Assist in the development and implementation of research protocols. Monitor inventory and order lab reagents and supplies. Oversee daily lab operations in the absence of the Principal Investigator/supervisor. Participate in weekly meetings with the principal investigator and other lab members to evaluate/interpret the validity of data. Operate, calibrate and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research. Demonstrate excellent organizational and time management skills. Knowledge - Skills - Abilities Knowledge of biology is required. Understanding of transcriptional and epigenetic regulation is preferred. Successful applicants should be highly organized and skilled in documentation and records management. Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, resource management, and written and verbal communication skills are also required. Applicants should have experience with tissue culture and/or basic molecular biology techniques (polymerase chain reaction, immunoblotting, restriction digestion, bacterial transformation, DNA preparation).
