JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Description: Purpose Dr. Olsen\'s laboratory is broadly interested in studying drug addiction, with emphasis on how environmental factors such as brain injury, chronic pain, and enrichment can alter drug craving. The Olsen Lab is looking for a motivated Research Technologist to provide support for new and ongoing lines of research. Under general direction from the PI, the successful candidate for this position will carry out experimental design for sponsored research projects, including compilation and analysis of generated data. Primary Functions * Carry out experimental designs for sponsored research projects and perform routine experiments including, but not limited to, the execution of multiple behavioral assays using preclinical, rodent animal models * Record and compile accurate records and communicate summaries of experimental results. * Assist with the evaluation, interpretation and assessment of experimental data and quality control of assays. * Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed. * Carry out assigned duties for ordering and maintaining supply of inventories. * Operate, calibrate and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research. * Perform routine laboratory maintenance including lab glassware washing, reagent and buffer preparation and lab restocking and cleaning. * Work daily with rodents. Examples of experimental procedures are to perform surgical procedures on rodents (e.g., jugular catheterization, stereotaxic surgery) and perform behavioral experiments involving intravenous drug self-administration. * Oversee daily lab operation in the absence of the supervisor or Principal Investigator. Knowledge - Skills - Abilities Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management. Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills. Preferred Schedule: 8A-5P M-F Position Requirements: Specifications Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on equivalent basis Minimum Required Education: Bachelor\'s degree Minimum Required Experience: No experience required Preferred Education: Major in biological sciences preferred. Preferred Experience: Experience with Excel, Powerpoint, and experimental record keeping preferred.
